ADHD WA welcomes child development funding

ADHD WA has welcomed the State Government’s $39 million dollar investment into child development, expanding vital services state-wide.

ADHD WA Board Chair, Dr Michele Toner said the new funding package should help more children living with ADHD access diagnosis and treatment in a more timely manner.

“Children living with ADHD are currently experiencing unacceptably long wait times for both diagnosis and treatment, with some primary aged children waiting around two years to see a paediatrician. This delay in treatment onset has serious consequences for their education and their social development.”

The new funding also includes a commitment to providing temporary accommodation for medical facilities in both metro and regional areas, helping to bridge the ever-increasing shortages being experienced in regional and remote areas across WA.

“Increased access to paediatric services in regional areas will reduce the need for families to travel vast distances for their child to receive treatment and care, which has long been an issue across WA” said Dr Toner.

“ADHD WA is hopeful the Government will continue to find ways to make treatment for ADHD more accessible and affordable for children and adults. ADHD WA works hard to provide therapy, assessments and education to WA families despite receiving no government funding.”
