Our ADHD Journey

ADHD WA (previously LADS) has been a big part of our journey. I will never forget calling the LADS helpline over 10 years ago in distress seeking help and a Paediatrician I could be referred to after our GP referred us to one that dismissed our concerns for our son. The following year my son was diagnosed with ADHD, ODD and anxiety. It has been a hell of a roller coaster since. We’ve been through many of hardships and headaches over the years and still going through them (most recent one being school refusal).

It’s definitely not for the faint hearted raising a child with severe ADHD.

My mantra these days is “This too shall pass”. The difference however is that through attending the ADHD WA parent support groups, parent coaching and seeing the psychologists over the years, we are able to cope better with whatever ADHD throws at us next. It’s definitely not for the faint hearted raising a child with severe ADHD. Embarrassed to say that even as a paediatric social worker with all my knowledge and years of experience I struggle. I struggle a lot. Thank you ADHD WA for your support and for continuing to be there for us when needed. If it wasn’t for you I’m not sure I would have survived to write this appreciation and gratitude. I hope to pay it forward one day and give back to you in whatever way I can. Keep up the valuable work that you do.
