Senate Inquiry into ADHD Services 2023

On 28 March 2023, the Senate referred an inquiry into the Barriers to consistent, timely and best practice assessment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and support services for people with ADHD to the Senate Community Affairs References Committee for inquiry and report by 27 September 2023. On 1 August 2023, the Senate granted an extension of time for reporting until 18 October 2023. On 18 October, the Senate granted a further extension of time for reporting until 6 November 2023.

ADHD WA has been advocating for change for the last 30 years and welcomes the Senate Inquiry into ADHD Services as an important opportunity to influence change and hold the government accountable for the lack of services and recognition of the challenges faced by individuals, families, parents, carers and children.

As a part of our ongoing advocacy efforts, ADHD WA encouraged our members and the wider community to engage in three ways:

  1. Complete our survey
    We called on ADHD WA Members and our community to complete a survey, providing invaluable insights that would inform ADHD WA’s submission.
  2. Write a submission
    ADHD WA facilitated eight in-person/online submission writing workshops throughout May, offering support to those sharing their experiences and perspectives.
  3. Spread the word
    We asked everyone to help spread the word and amplify the collective voice of the ADHD Community.

It is with much appreciation, that we received 606 responses to our survey that informed the ADHD WA Submission. Each response represented a person impacted by ADHD, with unique insights and personal experiences.

Following the close of submissions, ADHD WA was invited to present evidence at the Public Hearing held in Perth on Monday, July 24 2023. Dr Michele Toner, Chairperson of ADHD WA, and Ms Antonella Segre, CEO of ADHD WA, voiced the concerns, experiences, and aspirations of our members and the wider ADHD community in their address to the committee.
